Great topic, make it sticky
If it's really "RIP", what can I say? Karma. History explains

What do you think about the recent Cape Verdean presidential elections? Jorge Carlos Fonseca has been elected once again... Will Cape Verde turn in his personal hell too?
-
It's not the first time a moron has been elected president here. It is, however, the first time in the last 50 years that the election didn't have the full protection of the Voting Rights Act, which meant that it could be made difficult for non-white voters, the people who really don't like tRump, to get to a polling place or vote at all. It's not like they are selected by race, but there is a variety of ways to make it difficult for them to vote by closing polling stations in mostly non-white areas, denying votes to ex-felons (many of whom are black or otherwise non-white, because the laws here disproportionately target and are enforced against non-whites).
The red states had new voting restrictions imposed for this election. Several of them are "swing states" (states that aren't solidly R or D). Out of those, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Iowa, went to tRump (34 electoral votes)- he may have been helped by the new fucked-up restrictions.
I don't think this really speaks to how much people like tRump, but more to how much people hate Billary. I think this could have turned out differently if Bernie had been the Democratic nominee, because many people in the tRump camp liked Bernie as well (or even preferred him) and just wanted to screw with the establishment. I wouldn't be surprised if tRump is impeached. Also, he can't really change all that much; he's only the President. The real power is in the Congress, which is only barely majority Republican and many of them don't like tRump. Trump will be the chief diplomat of the U.S. and can propose laws or projects, but finances, declarations of war, and other more important things have to go through Congress. If he wants to build a wall on Mexico's dime (or peso I guess) he would have to do it through Congress and even then it would be the U.S. paying for it.
I think he'll either be impeached or only a single-term president.

Man, you Trump haters... And most of you aren't even American. You're bandwagoners is what you are. Nothing will change in the US domestic and foreign policy lol, get over it.

Oh man, now THAT is the real election that should be watched worldwide!

Well said. Many people keep getting this wrong and it makes me laugh how most of them are crying liberals or media. In the constitution of the United States, it is clearly stated, a president can not make laws. A president can only approve or deny laws. A foreign policy can not change that easily.
I just laugh at the fact that people care about our political elections, like worry about your own country, you don't see too happy in there either.
I'll make one statement though. My views are Republican based, hence I'll argue from a Republican perspective point of view so don't be butthurt.
I opposed Trump when this election began. When Trump was chosen as the Republican Party's nominee, I wasn't at all satisfied that they let him get it all easily. Trump has no political background but he's a businessman. He has a different approach to problems and I want to wait and see what he actually will do.
I do not trust a person in office by the name of Hillary. Even Bernie would have been a better nominee but the whole party screwed him out of it, quite sad. Besides that, she would continue Obama's cowardless policy of not actually accomplishing things and making up look like falls.
Obama may have fixed the economy and cares about climate change, but he does not care about the safety of this country.
I'm satisfied with last night's results. Trump was able to overpower in a lot of states that Obama got in the last election. He was able to reach places Mitt Romney was unable to. He was extremely popular in rural areas.
In the end, the only thing I have to say is. I'm pleased with the Republican control of the House and Senate, but we have yet to see what decisions President Trump will make. If he can actually change the country for good, and everyone likes it, then this election well be good.
Hey Stulens? Is Merkel any better? hahahaha

Hey Stulens? Is Merkel any better? hahahaha
LOL.
I really doubt Trump would hand over the US in a silver plate for muslim extremists for the sake of MEL-TI-KUL-TUH-RA-LESM.

I do not support either candidates (Well, a president and an unemployed), but I agree with Matt's quote here. A lot of people are very biased about Trump, which I kind of understand because of some very controversial things he has said/done. But he is the president now. It's no use complaining he isn't fit for the position, he will be the president for the next 4 years anyway. That's why I personally don't want to judge him before I've seen him in action
@YoMama thats pretty worrisome
By the way, read this (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/09/23/trump-is-headed-for-a-win-says-professor-whos-predicted-30-years-of-presidential-outcomes-correctly/), interesting stuff :P

I didn't know you needed to be American to stand up against racism, sexism, xenophobia and islamophobia. According to your argument we wouldn't be able to criticize any foreign leader, not even Kim Jong-un. After all we aren't North Koreans!
I just laugh at the fact that people care about our political elections, like worry about your own country, you don't see too happy in there either.
Yes, we would care only about our own country if we didn't live in a globalized world. If you think the US role in the Syrian war doesn't concern us, you're wrong. If you think that the foreign policy of the country that contributes around 22% of the United Nations annual budget is not of our business, you're wrong. If you think we shouldn't care about the country with whom the European Union annually trades 500 billion dollar worth goods and services, you're wrong. If you think it's not important for us that a mentally unstable person controls 5,113 nuclear warheads that could put an end to our existence at any time, then you're wrong. If you think we have nothing to do with the country that is the de facto world police with basically worldwide jurisdiction (with the right to kidnap arrest anyone in any country), then you're wrong. Also, you may not be aware of it, but this is just the beginning of a right-wing populism boom. I don't know if you've heard of Marine Le Pen, but she's a far-right populist and eurosceptic that is expected to become the next President of the French Public. So yes, I would say it's a global issue.
I'm also expectant to see what Donald Trump does. I'm pretty sure that he will lower his tone if we compare it with the campaign and the changes won't be so radical... fortunately.

Well said Mia ;) .
<PBBot3>: [Police ID: 1] dizzy: NOW MIA TRUMPS ENEMY.

I didn't know you needed to be American to stand up against racism, sexism, xenophobia and islamophobia. According to your argument we wouldn't be able to criticize any foreign leader, not even Kim Jong-un. After all we aren't North Koreans!
Ah, I was waiting for your reply :)
And why on Earth would any one of us be concerned about Kim Jong Un? He's a snake without a tongue, in fact most leaders today are. USA made North Korea look much bigger threat than it actually is.
On to Trump - do you really think he's the one holding the power? Sorry to disappoint, but it's actually the Senate and Pentagon/military. Trump is just a puppet and a face that ordinary citizens would blame if something goes wrong.
And finally, about his racism, xenophobia, etc. He knew how to get the attention of most Americans - say you'll make the country great again, say that you will enforce more strict immigration laws, etc, etc. You get tons of people to back you up, at least in the States. He's a very smart man, much smarter than you all think. And don't think for a second that he's a misogynist, racist or xenophobic.
My point is, nothing will change drastically. Much like nothing would happen in Russia-US relations if Hillary was elected (she threatened much worse relations with Russia btw). So yeah, you're getting riled up for nothing lol.
-
Talking seriously...
Yes, we would care only about our own country if we didn't live in a globalized world. [...] I'm pretty sure that he will lower his tone if we compare it with the campaign and the changes won't be so radical... fortunately.
I completely agree with this part.
But, as it was already stated, mr. Trump is neither a dictator, nor it is 1933 today. Despite of his charisma and his publicistic rhetorics, he doesn't posess such influence to principally change anything in his country policy, both foreign and domestical. He will be forced to soften his position in some points, or he's gonna be kicked out of his place.
The world has changed too much in comparison with what it was like, say, 100 years ago. Yeah, we face a new era of the crowd manipulation nowadays, but every global player of a world scene perfectly realizes that he's staying with a lighter in a petrol swamp (with every other players), even Kim does. I am sure that no WMD will be ever used, of course, if the second strike concept is possible. Its powers can only be used in political worldwide games (which happens since 1949).
So, I don't think that Trump's election is going to change anything cardinally itself, including the moments you've correctly (unfortunately) stated.
P.S. Despite its obvious imperfection, I rather like american political system, though I can't say I sympathize neither Hillary nor Trump. You've got two great opposing lies in USA (Republicans and Democrats), and theoretically a piece of truth can hide between them. Indeed, the result of the election wasn't clear till the end. Unfortunately, in, uhm, some other countries there is only one immense, all-consuming lie. Within it, there is no possible place for the truth (an example reductio ad absurdum: North Korea). The elections are show in USA, but in some other countries it is a pure farce, which is worse by an order.

I didn't know this was a topic about wars. I'm sure you as allies of the United States, are concerned but I didn't know it was that deep. I'm pretty disappointed with what USA has been doing with the Syrian war.
My point is, I didn't know you people study these election so closely and act like you know everything about how the parties work. Have you bothered reading the constitution of the United States? Or more importantly Article 2? You seem to be aware of the candidates and their views, but you do not know how the presidential process works or what powers the president can actually do. I think I'm aware of it all this political right wing power rise, seeing what happened with Brexit and what other countries are trying to pursue. People are clearly unhappy and very divided. It happened with Brexit, it happened with this election. You should be blaming Obama for all this dividedness. Clearly he's not doing something right, because then this wouldnt have happened. The guy did something president's dont normally knew. He knew the country was at risk, so he started campaigning for her. President's stay out of that, but he knew she was fucked.
Let's just said and see what "The Donald" will actually do, he's a very unpredictable man though haha

Exactly Altus, the whole American election process for the president is fascinating. From caucasus, to primaries, to debates, to the how the president is actually elected. I'm glad we didn't decide to inherit the British system, which really isn't democratic at all. You pick a party, everyone in one party wins a position. How free is that? I'm privileged to be able to vote in a system, where I can choose whoever I want for any positions, not being limited to party choices. Same with presidency, a president does not get elected by popular vote (aka the votes that a person like you or I cast) instead it decided upon electoral college votes. Hillary, for example, won the popular vote in this election, but Trump won the electoral votes.
In the end guys, we all have different political opinions. But we can all agree that we all have to wait and see to what exactly "The Donald" will do.

Trump got majority in election , he is elected by Americans and he is going to serve his country but the rest of the world got their butt hurt more than Americans.
Give him a break , at least wait for sometime to see his work before jumping on any conclusion. When majority decided to see him as president then they have had reasons for it.
I guess half of the people who're commenting here never cast a vote.

Like that phat phuck can change anything. lol'd

"The Donald" is actually in good shape at 70 years old compared to people like Hillary who faint at 9/11 ceremonies and suffer illnesses during world trips.

Matt you can't ever compare Trump with Merkel, he is a psycho, sexist and a bit racistic unlike Merkel. Trump has rude visions, but since the congress in USA makes the final decisions when a president suggests somethin, he don't have the full force/power over decisions in the country.
But the really dangerous thing is, that the majority of peoples who re inside that congress, are republicans...

Merkel acts like dictator, influences EU decisions. She's lucky she's still in power.
Typical liberal cries. He hasn't even done anything yet you use these words on him.
Exactly, I can't wait to see what the Republican Party fixes from this devastating Obama presidency.

"influences EU decisions". Ok Matt, but when the dicisions are good, where is the problem then? Merkel isn't like Trump. She is wise thinking before she says anything unlike him in most times. I would never trust someone like him running for President , but lets see how far it goes.
-
I know a new president has been elected, so we congratulate him and wish the Americans all the best. I read here about nuclear and world destruction... but at the end, everything that happens is God's will, so don't worry about it and keep on your duties, somehow it will work.

Yea and then countries like Poland and Hungary get bitched at for not accepting Syrians and get accused of not being Democratic at all? Maybe it's for their own safety instead of fitting in with European Union.
Trump says whatever is in his mind and I don't agree with that.

It sort of reminds me of the fascist trend of the 20s and 30s, which was capped of with the U.S.'s psuedo-dictator, Roosevelt, who used the war excuse to his advantage.
Hey Stulens? Is Merkel any better? hahahaha
At least Merkel cares about the environment and recognizes that an entire nation can't consist of rapists. She also seems to recognize that immigration is good, even in times of crisis- ever wonder how the U.S. became a nuclear superpower? How it suddenly landed miles ahead of every other country technologically? Blame Jewish refugees from Germany like Einstein and our relatively generous immigration policy. Many who came to the U.S. came here to escape something, and I'm glad they did. Why not keep that going? I think our borders should be open to anyone who hasn't committed anything that could be considered a crime in the U.S.
And don't think for a second that he's a misogynist...
He's not? I understand the pandering argument, but he has been accused many times of sexual assault and he runs a beauty competition- need more evidence?
You should be blaming Obama for all this dividedness. Clearly he's not doing something right, because then this wouldnt have happened. The guy did something president's dont normally knew. He knew the country was at risk, so he started campaigning for her. President's stay out of that, but he knew she was fucked.
You just pointed out that the President doesn't have that much power when you referenced Article 2, but now you're blaming everything on Obama like he could have helped things. I don't like some things he's done (*cough* drone strikes in Pakistan) but he seems to be doing what he thinks is best for the majority of the country (whereas tRump ran on a campaign of exclusion). I'd rather have Obama put in potentially costly health insurance laws than have Trumpy-dump "close" our borders and build a useless (https://youtu.be/AfVENwfeGHw) and expensive piece of shit wall. Walls have never worked in the past- just ask Genghis Khan.
Obama may have fixed the economy and cares about climate change, but he does not care about the safety of this country.
Trump doesn't accept climate change and he's very anti-science. He doesn't like vaccines, but he likes CFCs. If he undoes the prohibition on CFCs when or if he dismantles the EPA, you can enjoy your persistent sunburn and millions of people flocking from areas made inhospitable by a destroyed ozone layer. He's already done damage by lending any credence to the anti-vaxxer movement- say hello to polio! Obama is taking care of the root causes of potential safety issues in this country- when the sea level rises even more after Dump rolls back Obama's environmental protections, you can say goodbye to your nice whitebread country. We'll have people from all over the world trying to get here to escape rising tides- you think there will be time for background checks then? Obama is one of the most pro-science Presidents we've ever had. Trump will probably be the only one who is practically anti-science. I think people like Jefferson would be pretty disgusted by such a troglodyte. He's the kind of person the electoral college was designed to prevent.
Trump ... is a psycho, sexist and a bit racistic unlike Merkel.
Typical liberal cries. He hasn't even done anything yet you use these words on him.
Have you ever seen his twitter account? The only reason why he even appeared on the political stage was because he supported bullshit claims that Obama was Kenyan, even though it wouldn't even matter if he were. Apparently, that made Obama unfit for office. Sounds like racism to me.
Exactly, I can't wait to see what the Republican Party fixes from this devastating Obama presidency.
What's been so devastating about it?
I read here about nuclear and world destruction... but at the end, everything that happens is God's will, so don't worry about it and keep on your duties, somehow it will work.
That's not particularly comforting when you're talking about potentially irreversible damage to our planet's ability to sustain life. We've evolved over billions of years from a soup of amino acids to (theoretically) intelligent beings. What we have is pretty rare, to make an understatement.
he's a very unpredictable man though haha
Is that nervous laughter?

tbh, I'm choosing not to reply to you. Because I understand your cries, #latinolivesmatter

Well this didn’t end well..
I wonder how Matt and Spectre think about Trump now 🤣😅
