Food/Cooking!!!
« on: April 07, 2017, 06:37:51 am »
This is a light and fun topic.

Everybody eats, and most people enjoy talking about their personal taste in food. If this is your first conversation with someone, then don’t try to figure out the meaning of life. Find out what type of food you should try! Since I think this game-mode is set to have a lot of different backgrounds of nationalities coming from all around the world. I think it would be cool to spice up each other’s opinions and ideas by sharing a favorite dish. Also, to be specific you can share a meal or a snack, something that can all be enjoyable and soon to be tested. Also, does anyone follow any specific diet? Like vegan or paleo for example. This can tell you A LOT about their personal values. (Don’t ask this to a fat person, they will probably get offended if they are sensitive about their weight.)

I know cooking is often depicted as part of women's housework, which supports "real" (male or public) production. But we all have some sort of talent. So please share and comment your favorite dish! Also, please provide little or more feedback about why it’s the best dish out there. So, I would like to start off with my favorite dish! I live in the United States so don’t get fooled upon what I choose.

Spaghetti and Meatballs!!!

Almost everyone has at one point in their life gotten to experience the one and only masterpiece. This classic dish is considered a family staple when it comes to dinner time. After all, nothing is more comforting than a heaping plate of noodles soaked in marinara sauce and delectable meatballs.

My Favorite Dish: Mandi

Mandi (Arabic: المندي‎‎) is a traditional dish from Yemen. An Arabic dish with chicken and rice baked simultaneously. Using Arabic spices along with other masala, this dish is novel and delicious....

It is also eaten in Saudi Arabia and some gulf nations . It is now very popular in other areas of the Arabian Peninsula. The word "mandi" comes from the Arabic word nada, meaning "dew", and reflects the moist 'dewy' texture of the meat.

In Arabia, Mandi is considered the main dish served during special events, such as Eid, weddings, and feasts. In Turkey, this Dish is Called Kuzu Mandi Pilavic.

Guess what? A Döner !

Döner is a Turkish word, from dönmek ("to turn" or "to rotate"). It is sometimes spelled döner kebap, the Turkish spelling, and it literally means "rotating roast". In Greece, it was originally called döner (Greek: ντονέρ) but later came to be known as gyros, from γύρος ("turn"), a calque of the Turkish name. The Arabic name شاورما (shāwarmā) derives from another Turkish word, çevirme, also meaning "turning". Persians refer to it as "kebab torki". (Wikipedia)

This image has been taken in 1855 in Turkey, oldest Döner photo!

Goldy actually referring to a turkish food called Gyro in Greece :D It's called some different words in many countries, but the origin is Turkey. Because of Ottoman Empire used to share turkish culture all around world when Ottoman Empire won the wars at today's free countries; back then was a Ottoman Empire lands. Ottoman Soldiers moved to those countries in the past, they used to live there and began their own lives with turkish culture.

That's why Döner is so famous in some countries! :D

Bon Apetit! ;D

I used to work at a restaurant (of sorts) and the owners were quite the assholes. Soo every weekend we would get the biggest bowl we could find and prepare Caesar salad for all of us. Not the best dish out there, for sure, but it was really awesome just to hang out eating this when our manager wasn't dicking around.

The Moroccan Couscous

Couscous (Berber: ⵙⵉⴽⵙⵓ, Seksu) is a North African Berber dish of small steamed balls of semolina, usually served with a stew spooned on top. Couscous is a staple food throughout the North African cuisines of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Mauritania and Libya and to a lesser extent in Sicily.

In Morocco it is also served, sometimes at the end of a meal or just by itself, as a delicacy called "seffa". The couscous is usually steamed several times until it is very fluffy and pale in color. It is then sprinkled with almonds, cinnamon and sugar. Traditionally, this dessert is served with milk perfumed with orange flower water, or it can be served plain with buttermilk in a bowl as a cold light soup for supper. And we also eat Couscous on Friday

Great topic. I'm a huge fan of Arabic, Indian (and anything Eastern in general) food, and since most of you are from those countries, it's such a pleasure to get familiar with your dishes.

I'm going to leave here my favorite typical dish. It's very popular in the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago near the West Coast of Africa.

It's called papas arrugadas, which literally means wrinkly potatoes. They are as simple as a bunch of whole potatoes with salt that are boiled with their skin (that's why it gets wrinkly!). They are salty themselves, but they add a typical Canarian sauce called mojo rojo (red mojo). It's a spicy and delicious one.

Don't forget to try them out if you visit the islands.

Trivia: This dish was chosen the 1st Gastronomic Wonder in Spain, it even beat our paella or jamón. That's a bit overrated in my opinion hehe :)

The Moroccan Rfissa:

Rfissa is a popular feast dish in Morocco that is served during various traditional celebrations.

It is traditionally served with chicken and lentils and fenugreek seeds (helba in Arabic), msemmen, meloui or day-old bread, and the blend of Ras el hanout.
