IRC Tutorial
« on: August 20, 2016, 11:42:40 pm »
Hey guys! This is a tutorial on how to connect to the Plan B IRC channels using two different programs.

------------------------------------------------

Fast and simple: WebIRC (Mibbit)

On this website, click on the IRC button.

Choose a nickname and click connect. This web client will do everything for you, so you'll automatically connect to #PlanB, the general Plan B channel, and #PlanB.echo, the Plan B echo channel in which you can chat with players that are in-game.

------------------------------------------------

The advanced way: mIRC

Download mIRC on this website: http://www.mirc.com/get.html (30 day-trial version)
Once you have installed mIRC, this window will pop up (If it doesn't, hover over the Tools tab and click Options)

Fill in your nickname and alternative nickname

Next, click on "servers" and click Add
Copy this data
Description: Plan B (Or whatever you want to name it to)
Server adress: exnet.fr.irc.tl
Port: 6667

Once you have created the new bookmark, just double click it in the server list and click Connect.

Now all you have to do is /join the Plan B channels, which are #PlanB and #PlanB.echo (E.g. /join #PlanB)

------------------------------------------------

Current list of commands in the echo channel:

!say         (To chat with players in-game, e.g. : !say Hello everyone!)
!tp           (Tells you the total amount of players currently playing in the server)
!getid       (To fetch someone's ID)
!president (Tells you the current president in the server)
!spree      (Tells you the current highest spree in the server)
!map        (Tells you the current map in the server)
&[text]     (To talk in the in-game VIP chat, voice rank only)

------------------------------------------------

Registering and logging in

Register on the irc.tl network to prevent others from using your name, or to acquire voice rank(To talk in the in-game VIP chat) if you're VIP.

Type /ns register [password] [email]
Make sure to check your e-mail after doing this, in order to validate your account.
Type /ns identify [password] to log in (You have to do this every time you connect to the IRC network)

------------------------------------------------

mIRC Extra: nickalerts

Nickalerts are a very useful way to get notified every time your name is being said, for example when someone needs you. Here's how to enable them in mIRC.

In mIRC, hover over the Tools tab and click Adress Book. Navigate to the Highlight tab and click Add

Fill in your exact IRC nickname and match the picture's settings. Click on "No Sound" until it lets you choose a file. If you're using Windows, navigate to C:\Windows\Media, there are some cool and short duration sounds you can use for your nickalert. Don't forget to check the "Enable Highlight" box after you saved your highlight, or it will not work!

------------------------------------------------

Enjoy! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.

Nice tutorial, Uthar. What you're doing for our community, should be really appreciated. :)

Bro, there are 2 best irc clients for android,
1 is AndroIRC, 2 is IRCcloud, irc cloud is the best because it has features similar to mIRC.

If you need an indepth tutorial, i'll do it for irccloud here.

IRC cloud is not that great because it has its own thing which keeps you active even when you log out for a day or two and buffers the message when you open it (a semi bnc basically). Also you have to register which isn't that transparent imo. Not the best client other than looks and some additional features. Whereas AndroIRC is what I prefer because of its simplicity.

Some people don't realize they can install irc apps on Android/iOS and still use mibbit >.<

I'm aware of those IRC programs but I'm not really into that stuff and I screwed up when I tried to use one of them (it was AndroIRC I guess). I barely joined IRC on Android anyway. Still a tutorial for that would be good though.

I'm sorry guys, I can't do any tutorials for android because I don't own an android device. If any of you has time and wants to make one, feel free to. I will add it to the first post if you PM it to me :D
