I think it's a good suggestion, e.g. when you're a terrorist and wanna see if a friend of yours could join the terrorist team or when you're in a plane and wanna see if you could change team, since you cannot reclass while driving.
But this isn't a very pressing issue. Devs got quite a few things in their to do list, imo

I like this, +1. This command (/checkrc?) should also display the number of the slots available in the team.

I'm not sure how the vip overriding ruins the balance and if the server really follows the (swat+cops+sec=terros+civ) balance.

But yes this command is helpful for the non vips to know how many slots are free in every class.  Type /slots to get list of all available slots in different classes. +1
