Windows 7 problem

Hello Everybody,

So I use Windows 7 Ultimate and since last week I am facing a problem that when I turn on my pc, I get one message on desktop that "CheckUpdate.exe has stopped working" and when I open any other program say it to be Vlc Media Player,  Firefox etc.,  I get the same message that the program has stopped working. Also the same problem occurs when I try to install or uninstall any program. The task manager automatically gets disabled.

I tried re installing windows,  deleted temp and prefetch files, tried disabling DEP too but the problem is still there as it is.

Please help me in fixing it because I am unable to get the proper fix to it. Hoping for a quick response...

Posting a serious question on these forums is surely the best way to see the worst jokes repeating over and over again.


I assume that you are using a licensed Windows 7 Ultimate.
Most likely your problem is not hardware related, so there is a bunch of radical ways to fix it. I would suggest this:

• Save your data outside of your hard drive
• Install a nice live CD (this one is a nice option, although I haven't been using it for ages) to your flash drive and boot it
• Diagnose as many hardware components as possible to make sure everything is fine
• Optional, but I'd suggest to use a zero fill utility (e.g. 'autonuke') to wipe your hard drive
• Install Windows and get the latest drivers for your hardware
• On a clean installation, check if the problem still persists

If it doesn't fix the problem, I would blame your hardware, although I doubt that it's possible. In this case, don't rely to the Internet advices and show your PC to a competent person you trust.

I do not have a cd drive in my pc but I can boot with a pendrive. I will try it. Thank you Altus

Your system automatically makes a backup point..once in while automatically and also prior to any major update or software installation .
 
Just open START > all programs > accessories > system tools> system restore .

Then system restore wizard would be opened ..and down below yiu can see all backup points .

what do you mean by task manager is disabled? are you able to click on the "open task manager" in the statusbar or when you click on it, it doesn't open up? what do you mean by i cant install or uninstall? do you mean that it gives you an error when trying that or when you open up any .exe file, nothing happens?
If so, download process Hacker portable version, run it and see which program is responsible of lunching this "checkupdate.exe" file. also try to monitor TCP connections that are linked to this process by using TCP monitor.or try using GlassWire.Also, if you want a good "pirated" windows, check TeamOS-hkrg forum, they even have windows 10 pro "lite versions" that are cleaned of all Microsoft bloatware like cortana, store,People and other useless apps.

Format your pc and get the latest window, that's the best solution in my opinion.
