Title: A thought for those in need
Post by: Rev on July 30, 2017, 03:45:40 am
I probably will ramble a lot, but please, I beg of you to take a few seconds to read through.

Hello there! For those of you who don't know me - which is, to be honest, the vast majority of PTP players - my real name is Roy. I'm a citizen of Venezuela although I do like to consider myself a citizen of the world, because in a perfect world borderlines would not mean anything. I've been under the Rev nickname since I began playing PTP back in God knows when, actually. It has been a couple of years.

A couple of years that have been filled with really fun times with so many of you! I got to meet wonderful people here and also incredibly intelligent human beings as well. And that's what brings me to creating this topic: those fun times and future moments that I could spend here, could soon be over.

You might not be aware of this, but tomorrow, our National Government, which has put on practice very dictatorship-like actions, will try and most likely succed on changing our Constitution. A few of those actions they've said will be taken are jailing whoever opposes them and, also, put on stronger censorship meassures or shut down the intenet as we currently know it. Oppostion leaders have call this procces the full implementation of Comunism.

As of this moment we have been on the streets fighting against it for over 3 months now. Three months that have left us with over a hundred people killed by the government military forces or those that support them (armed civilians, paramilitary), many, many more injured and around 450 political prisoners. Of course, more people have been arrested, but they're often let free. Those who aren't lucky? They get to spend days in a jailcell being abused and tortured. Some of the most twisted and perverse torture we are aware of are: prisoners being fed human feces, young women being raped, innocent and poor families being under threat, beating up, and so on. There's also this case of a man who was imprisoned in a jail especifically designed for the prisoner to lose track of time: the cell was pitch white with no windows, no outside lights whatsoever and no human contact. This could drive a man insane.

It certainly is very tough, but I don't want you to pity us. We are not the first to go through a situation such as this and, unfortunately, we won't be the last. And that's what saddens me. The world has its fair amount of twisted people and a lot of them count with the tools to get to be in a position of power.

You may not like me, and that's fine, but when it comes to hard moments in history, it's only united that we can see through them.

Two moments:
1. Good one. There is always a chance that ur government will run away from the country.
2. Bad one. There is always a chance that one of your "neighbor country" will try to take an advantage of the moment, and "things go from bad to worse".

It's sad that your government works so hard to make the country regress back to the early 20th century.
Hang in there, you and your country. :)

I've read a lot of articles about how bad the situation is in Venezuela, but this is something entirely different. No one should be able to change the Constitution for whatever reason, least of all for some personal power gain or whatever.

Hang in there, you and all of your people. Hopefully things will change for the better soon :)

Well, Rev, despite Mr Maduro's possible success in today's Constituent Assembly elections, it's very important to keep pressuring him. I want to tell you that you, the Venezuelans, can't allow Mr Maduro to take your freedom away. You have to gather up, protest and express your opposition to his decisions. As a Pole, a citizen of a country which has already been erased from the map of Europe for almost 120 years and survived, has been completely destroyed under the occupation during the WWII and survived and which has been under the Soviet domination for another 45 years and survived, I want to ensure you - even if your Constitution will be modified right now and your President will implement a communism, it's just a matter of time when Venezuela returns to the democratic path.
Mr Maduro's TV speech, in which he has said about the opposition member, Mr Deputy Speaker Guevara, that 'this little Hitler has his cell guaranteed' is extremely disturbing as it shows that his main motive is depriving the freedom of actions by the opposition by taking away its leaders immunity and jailing them. Just like your Interior Minister decided that public gatherings and demonstrations across the country are forbidden and their participants will face five to ten years of imprisonment for taking part in it, while it's the only possible way to express the lack of support for the government decisions.
It has already happened throughout the history, but it shows us that such dictatorial inclinations can be defeated and I'm sure that sooner or later they will be defeated in Venezuela as well.

Roy, however terrifying and sublime it will sound, please, do not give up. You, the Venezuelans, can not surrender. I hope that 'the world' will finally end standing aside and just watching and starts taking some concrete actions. I hope you and your relatives will stay safe and sound in those, tragic for you, times.

God bless you and God bless all the Venezuelans in your fight for freedom!

Rev/Roy I've known you for years now on this server, since you've been trolling me with Nani (haha)

I've read a little about the crisis in Venezuela. I can't really say much cause but stay safe and eventually your country will regain its democracy. But even before this whole situation, Venezuela has been struggling to exist regardless. I hope you get out of that hell hole someday and go somewhere where you can survive. You got the great English skills to be anywhere on this planet and making that money.

Stay in contact, dont hesitate to message me.

Saludos

I'm truly overwhelmed by your response to this topic. Thank you, guys! Means a lot.

As expected, the government went to elections and they did everything as they had planned, but the elections were a fraud. Something we knew because they said over 8 million people voted for them and it was obviously a lie since the streets were empty! We believe they only had about 3.5 million votes. And most of those were people afraid to lose their jobs - A lot have been fired since Monday because they did not attend to the elections to vote.

Here's the link if anyone is interested:

http://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-latin-america-40805503/venezuela-vote-we-know-the-turnout-was-manipulated

I'd like to clarify that I'm not leaving the server or anything like that. I'll be around for as long as I can! :)

And once again, thank you all.

Lol, "Russian and Venezuelian people are brothers forever".
Well, in fact it is not funny at all.

I praise your willingness to defend your freedom, your rights and your mere human living (in contradiction to existense). Unfortunately, people haven't thought of any better formation of human co-existense but a state, and any state political system is always degenerating to kind of oligarchy, which, in turn, turns into a parasite which is only representing its own interest. People of any state must struggle against it when it becomes real, or they are doomed to endure a miserable, beastly life.

Of course, your country doesn't face the best times, but you're right: it is not worth pitying. I wish best of luck personally you, your friends, your relatives, and the prosperity and better, decent future for your country in general. In my country, we're facing the "light" version of the things that you had stated. I am also trying to be politically active at my best - that's a true duty of every citizen (we're rarely called "citizens" officially here: rather "a population unit") - but thankfully (or not thankfully: maybe the stagnation in my country will last for eternity) the things are not that critical here yet.

You've got my full moral distant support. Take care and stay well.

P.S.
I do like to consider myself a citizen of the world, because in a perfect world borderlines would not mean anything.
Nice to meet another person who considers the Earth, not a tile of it under a flag, to be his Motherland.

P.P.S.
Those who aren't lucky? (...) This could drive a man insane.
All of the state suppresion systems used to think that performing such awful actions is a way to terrorize people, to make them shut up and passively stay at their homes. But in fact it must work vice versa: how can you stay silent and be politically passive if you know that your compatriots are being treated this way for standing for their rights, even if you were passive before? The best weapon of the state against its own citizens is lack of information and ignorance. But, fortunately, it's way harder to establish nowadays than, say, half a century ago.
