I know there are occasionally morons who go far beyond what's acceptable behavior when talking about race, religion, etc. but I've appreciated the fact that discussion here isn't regulated too tightly. I can have a (usually respectful) discussion about race, religion, politics or whatever with someone I disagree with and get a different perspective. For example, Matt and I have discussed Trump, as Americans with very different views, on a number of occasions and I've always found it interesting. I've discussed religion a lot as well, with various players. It makes PTP feel more like a community than just a game. Most of the people who come in with extremist views seem to be trolling, but regardless, they're usually breaking enough rules already that they can be kicked for other reasons.
Freedom of Speech doesn't mean anyone has to listen the crap you come out with. Some people are religious and If you talk shit about their religion and belief , he/she just can't ignore it.
Some people (like me) are not religious, and we regularly put up with people assuming that we subscribe to their particular belief system and the subsequent horror/ostracism when they find out the opposite. I've been told that I am apparently going to be hanging out in Hell by people I have known and trusted all of my life, so I don't publicize my lack of belief. I don't have the luxury of taking offense at people talking about religion, even though I have my own views about it- why should anyone have that luxury? I think a lot of people who take offense are used to being in the majority, but when they're in a place where they aren't, they can't handle it.
Yes, this problem is very serious and has to be handled fast. This hate speech which is recently becoming more and more common on our server is very dangerous. Just think about those young players (<18) who are joining our community. For such teenagers, our server has an educational mission, because their identity and worldview are still being developed. In my opinion, a fact that they can with impunity humiliate and ridicule others, just because of some factors (which are, nota bene, simply beyond their control, like race etc.) leads them to imitate others who do it. Even without knowing that it's nothing else, but just a racism. We can't ignore and tolerate it. Otherwise, they'll radicalize and will turn those offensive words into action, which may just end badly for them and society.
I don't think banning hate speech will solve the problem. It just fits into the "unpopular views are being suppressed by society" narrative. I think one of the most effective ways to reform a xenophobe is to put them in an environment where they don't know anything about other people initially, but they find out later that the people they've interacted with are some of the same people they thought they hated and they realize that they're not so different after all.
It works for homophobes...There are a lot of regulars/newbies camping just next to President spawn ready with Nrg and Spas and as soon as the President leaves his spawn zone, they kill him within seconds.
So, maybe we can make a certain big circle near president spawn anti terrorist zone until the President losses his spawn protection. The warnings can be like the ones which we get right now for spawn killing as civilian and after a few warnings their health can start reducing so that they are compelled to leave the anti terrorist zone.
I've always viewed this as a reality of the game and thought that the people who do it are poor sports if they think they're great players when it works. I don't think you can really fix it- they'll just do the same thing farther away. The only suggestion I would have would be to extend spawn protection to cars as well.
